I was walking down Marsh Rabbit Run trail at Circle B Bar Reserve recently when I saw this great blue heron walking in front of me with a big fish.
I froze thinking he would take off but he just stopped and played with his snack for a while. I’m not sure if he was waiting for the fish to stop wiggling or he was just trying to get a good angle to swallow it. He jumped down into the water right before he swallowed it but he got it down whole.
Hello,
Great captures of the heron with the fish. It is a strange looking fish too.
Thank you for linking up and sharing your post. Take care, enjoy your weekend!
It amazes me to watch them eat them whole…but they do! Great photos…what a sighting!
Great shots! Glad he took his time allowing you to click these many beautiful pics.

Hi, Found you via Saturday’s Critters. Excellent group of photos with the Great Blue Heron enjoying a snack. You have a nicely designed blog … thank you for sharing.
Terrific series!
That’s an armored catfish. The heron has to make sure the fish is dead before he swallows it so the spines will lay flat and not remain erect, which would cause damage.
