Anhingas are pretty common along any body of water in central Florida. They swim under water and spear fish with their beaks. They flip the fish into their mouths and swallow them whole.
I caught this one struggling a few minutes before getting it down.
There was an osprey flying right above me looking for fish. They swoop down and grab fish with their talons.
Wonderful captures! That Osprey is breathtaking!
You got great action shots … and amazing flight shots …. I’m envious!!
A fabulous selection of birds. Love the fish eating ones. My favourite are the buntings – what sweet little birds.
Cool blog and nice shots! I initially noticed your “anhinga vs fish” captures here. Wow, that looks like a huge fish caught and eventually staring deep down its captor’s throat!
So does the Hungry female anhinga really manage to gulp that whole thing down entirely okay?? Does the fish put up a good fight, if eaten, does the unlucky prey get swallowed wriggling all the way as well?!
Lovely bird pic!
