Update on “Mick” jaeger

After a brief stay at the Suncoast Seabird Sanctuary for a hooked foot, the jaeger is back at the beach at Fort Desoto. A week after I first got pictures of him, I stopped by to see if he was still there. He was standing right on the fishing pier with tons of people walking by.

He flies down to the beach.

He started picking through the shells.

Not much luck for a snack.

This guy should be spending his time flying miles off the beach. Instead, he’s spent a month lounging around the small beach next to the fishing pier at Fort Desoto. Someone had gotten pictures of a hook in his foot about a week after he was discovered. He was treated at the Suncoast Seabird Sanctuary and brought back to the beach where he has stayed. He seems to be in good shape and feeding right off the beach. Maybe he’ll spend the winter here. People are still traveling across the state to see him so he’s pretty famous right now. Of course, he’s oblivious to it all.

  1. Oh I am so glad that he was found and helped and then released. I hope he stays around for the winter too though he may forget what he is and think he is human with the attention~
