Backyard botanical gardens

My Mom loved dogwood flowers. We had several in our yard when I was growing up.

Getting a bite.  My sister had just fed her fish in the koi pond in her backyard.

Beautiful pine trees along the edge of the yard.

My sister and her husband have spent a lot of time working in their back yard.  We were there in late March and the spring blooms were just starting to come out. Their yard looks like a botanical gardens, with flowers, bushes, benches, bird feeders, bird houses and two fish ponds. The thing I noticed the most was the dogwood trees. We don’t have them here in central Florida and I hadn’t seen any during my quick trip to Birmingham. She had several in her yard and it made me think of my Mom.

Pretty in yellow.

These were all taken in late November when the yellow flowers were still in bloom at Circle B Bar Reserve.

Not a pretty morning but still a pretty place. The yellow flowers were just starting to come out.

Another view from the trail. The bushes were losing their leaves as the yellow flowers were blooming so the contrast was weird.

Even though it was drizzling on and off all morning, I still had a good walk. At least it wasn’t hot. Whether it’s sunny or cloudy, hot or cold, animals everywhere or very few around, Circle B Bar Reserve is still a perfect place.

I’m thinking this is a red tailed hawk instead of a red shoulder hawk. The red shoulder hawk would have stripes on his tail. Any ideas?

My first real bobcat sighting and I blew it. I was taking pictures of something else, I can’t even remember what it was now, when I saw something move out of the corner of my eye. My camera settings were all wrong so all I got is this blurry shot.

DSC_9304

By the time I fixed my settings, this was all I got. My first bobcat butt shot!

DSC_9308

It was all over in seconds. He headed down into the ditch and I lost sight of him. I looked for him for at least a half hour softly saying “Here kitty.” but no sign of him again.

Eagles and a bobcat in one day. It was a good morning even though my bobcat pictures turned out blurry. The weather was perfect and not many people out on the trail at Circle B Bar Reserve in early November. I’m going to keep going back this winter and looking for that bobcat again.
