Fun stuff at Bok Tower Gardens

It didn’t feel like fall or Halloween until I went to Bok Tower Gardens in central Florida. They had some fun decorations around the gardens. The scarecrows were made by local school kids.

I was disappointed that the only bird at the feeder was a red-winged blackbird.

It was a beautiful morning. The moon was still out while I walked the trails.

I recently spent several hours walking around the gardens at Bok Tower. It’s about an hour and a half from where I live in Tampa but worth the drive. The gardens have a huge variety of things including flowers, trees, birds, butterflies and other tiny critters to practice photography while getting in a good walk.

The skies of Sanibel Island

On vacation in Sanibel Island.  On our first night I walked out of our room and walked the 20 feet to the beach.  The above was the view.

One day before lunch, we were watching a storm roll in. This was the only rain we saw during our 5 day stay,  way off in the gulf.

On our last night, we had dinner at a restaurant near a marina and watched the sun go down. It was a beautiful drive back to our hotel.

We did a staycation in late September and drove 2 hours south of Tampa and stayed right on the beach in Sanibel Island. Tourist season was over and it was very calm and quiet. It was nice just to relax and hang out on the beach for several days.  I took tons of pictures (I can only relax so much) so I’ll be boring you with my “What I did on my summer vacation” pictures coming up. I did bring my Nikon camera and several lenses but all of the above were taken with my Iphone.

The moon was still out when I got to the park at 8am.

You would think by these pictures that it was started to feel like fall around here. Oh no, we’re still at 85 degrees. We’ve been getting a lot of rain so I’m not sure why some of the leaves were turning so early.

DSC_6700

It was nice to see the red leaves. Something we don’t see often here. Most of the time it goes from green to dead.

There were more spiders than birds.

This looked like a big cotton ball in the middle but it’s some kind of spider web.

You had to keep an eye out over your head as you walked along the boardwalk. I kept doing spider checks in my hair.

Lake

View of the lake from the tower. Taken with my phone. You can just barely see the moon in the sky.

I had a nice weekend morning walking around Lettuce Lake Park in north Tampa. The weather was perfect but the birds and animals were scarce. The swamp was flooded so the wading birds were not around. I got a good 3 hour walk in before heading home for lunch.
