Fun shots of my recent trip to Lowry Park Zoo in Tampa.
I caught the baby elephants hanging out by the water hole with one of the adults. The adult pushed the baby out of the way so she could get a drink of water.
It’s rare to see a giraffe sitting down.
He’s suppose to be scary but looks like he’s giving me a silly grin.
Just a few fun things at the Lowry Park zoo recently.
Linking to Saturday’s critters
I always see red bellied woodpeckers up in the trees at the zoo.
Everyone loves the little meerkat “clowns”.
The marabou stork is back on the nest. Last spring she had 2 babies. She doesn’t look too happy about having to sit there for weeks.
The front of an Okapi.

“There’s a piece straw hanging in front of my eye. Maybe I can reach it with my tongue” says the giraffe.
A hooded merganser snoozing over the manatee pool.
Injured manatees recouping at the zoo manatee hospital.
He seemed so serious in the first picture so I asked him to smile.
A few funny things at Lowry Park zoo.
An early morning walk at the Lowry Park zoo produced a lot of funny faces. A baby marabou stork all grown up, a screech-owl missing eye that found refuge at the zoo and a loving boat billed heron couple among a few I saw. The caracara in the last picture was shot in the wing. He has a permanent home at the zoo where he can do his hop/fly low on the ground. We don’t really see any caracaras on the coast since they mostly live in central Florida so this is a good chance for kids to get up close and see one.
Another tourist trip during Christmas week. My sister and I spent a morning at the zoo. Beautiful and not too hot, the animals were out playing. I think that old turtle face is my favorite. He looks so prehistoric and funny with that blade of grass hanging out of his mouth. He was up moving around that morning. There’s always something entertaining at the Lowry Park Zoo in Tampa.
