A green heron in the backyard

I saw this green heron standing on our dock so I ran outside with my camera. He let me get pretty close. At least halfway across the backyard.

He jumped over to my neighbor’s seawall and started picking the bugs off the seawall. I don’t know what kind of bugs those were. They look like centipedes.

  1. The bugs are a type of Ligia. Not sure of the species…. baudiniana possibly. Their common names are Rock louse, Beach Cockroach, Marine isopod, Warf Roach, Sea Slater and others.
