Merry Christmas from Disney Springs

Thanksgiving weekend my sisters and I headed over to Disney Springs to have an early lunch and walk around. Disney Springs is a shopping and dining area with activities and events. It’s basically a Disney park without rides and you don’t have to pay to get in. We got there early in the morning and left early in the afternoon. By the time we left it was so crowded you could barely walk. It was a fun way to get into the Christmas spirit.

I realized later that you could see my reflection in the window and my sister standing next to me.

We stopped at the bakery on the way out to get deserts to take home.

Merry Christmas to everyone and thanks for stopping by my blog during the year!

Where I am today

If this doesn’t get me in the spirit nothing will. I am spending today at Epcot with Brett. We are having a staycation day since Disney is only an hour away from our house.  The above were all taken last year in December when I took my sister here for the day during her visit. I was traveling light so all of the above were taken with my Iphone. I’m sure the decorations look the same this year. I’ll let you know if it has changed any.  Instead of turkey and stuffing for our meal today, we are going to eat Italian food (or maybe French, or maybe German, or maybe even Japanese)! Or we could have a little of every county. It’s fun to snack around the countries at Epcot. I plan on coming home with a tummy ache from all the stuff I eat today. But isn’t that what you’re suppose to do on Thanksgiving?  Hope you have a nice one as well.

Watching Grumpy take a bath at Disney’s Animal Kingdom

DSC_4347

We saw this condor in one of the exhibits near the front of the park walk up to the edge of the water. This is a bird we wouldn’t see in Florida except at a zoo. This was back in early March when my sister came to visit from South Dakota.

DSC_4356

I thought he was just getting a sip of water but we stood there for a few minutes to see what he would do.

DSC_4364

Drip. He paused for a moment.

DSC_4372

He then took a couple of steps into the water and started flapping his wings. He was taking a bath in front of all of the tourists.

DSC_4374

He was having a great time. It was a little chilly that morning so he must have just thought he was dirty.

DSC_4379

He stuck his head under the water.

DSC_4393

He came up on land and started to dry off. He’s a scruffy looking bird.

DSC_4396

He walked over to the other side of the exhibit with his wet wings.

DSC_4419

He had a nest! He stood on the side and waiting for his wings to dry off.

We watched him for a while. He seemed oblivious to all around. The exhibit is not enclosed with netting or anything on top so I was able to shoot without getting something in the way. I’m assuming his wings are clipped. He was a big beautiful bird but had a grumpy face. I finally finished editing all of the pictures I took of our early spring trip to Animal Kingdom. I remembered watching this guy and thinking how cool it was we got to see him bathing. I’ll probably never see a condor out in the wild so this is the closest I’ll get. We were pretty close there at the exhibit.

Animals at Animal Kingdom

Funky fish. He looked prehistoric.

These meerkats were funny to watch.

Chilling out.

Something was tasty back in those weeds.

Do these horns make my butt look big?

“Where have you been? Your tail smells funny”

Some of the fun animals we saw on our early March trip to Animal Kingdom. Animal Kingdom is just a really big zoo at Disney World with a few rides thrown in. They do it right though. The exhibits are huge. And no wires or fences to try to shoot through. I had no problems with trying to focus through fence squares. Although I did have to zoom in on the gorilla since he was sitting pretty far back. A few animals we didn’t catch since they were hiding in the back. The safari ride is my favorite but it’s hard to get good shots. I had my camera set on auto and still didn’t get anything worth saving except for the 2nd one from the bottom. You ride in a big jeep and it’s very bumpy and jerky. The driver does stop for a minute or two at different place but it depends on angles, lighting or whether an animal is right in front of you when it stops. And, you can’t leave the park without having some kind of frozen treat. Even when it’s cold outside. Whether it’s a Mickey Mouse shaped ice cream bar, a chocolate covered frozen banana or just a plain ole ice cream cone.

The tree of life in the center of the park.

Up close, you can see all of the animals carved into the tree.

DSC_4244

A shot of one of the cool upside down trees. It’s a replica of a hundred year old Baobab Tree from Africa and looks like a tree growing upside-down. The tree rarely has leaves, so it always looks like the top branches are the roots of the tree.

One of the many waterfalls in the park. (My attempt at fake HDR editing on the shot.)

A view of the Mount Everest rollercoaster ride from across the park.

We were walking along with Russel from the movie Up. It was funny to see how many people knew him and were so excited to see him. If you haven’t seen Up yet, it’s worth the rent.

DSC_4441

We were there on the first Friday in March. A little early for spring breaks but the park was packed. Isn’t the country in a “recession”? You wouldn’t think that here.

Pointing the way out.

My sister and I hit Animal Kingdom in Orlando when she came to visit in early March. We thought we’d get rain but lucked out and it was only cloudy most of the day. The weather was perfect. Not hot and sweaty. The lines were long so we used our fast pass for the safari ride. It was a fun day just hanging out and taking pictures.
