A walk on Davis Islands

The heat was breaking by early November and Brett and I were going out often for an early lunch and then a quick walk at different places around the Tampa Bay area. One of our favorite places to walk that we had not been to in a long time was the yacht basin on Davis Islands, near downtown Tampa.

This small island got completely flooded when the hurricanes hit in late 2024 and there was still a lot of damage with people waiting to get their homes fixed. It looked like the yacht club had been redone because there were a lot of people over there and it looked like a sailing class was going on.

Standing on the seawall I could see a blue crab in the water.

We could see downtown Tampa from across the small private airport.

We stopped by the Marjorie Park yacht basin before leaving and had a short walk around the small marina. There are great views of Tampa from the back side of this marina.

Cranes and Sailboats

Not so early in the morning, the sun had just come up over Port Tampa, across from Davis Islands yacht basin. I was out for a walk on a Saturday morning.

More shots from my walk around the yacht basin.

I stopped by the Marjorie Park marina before leaving Davis Islands and took the above shot of downtown Tampa. There was a storm coming from the far left.

A wide pano of the basin taken with my phone.

“Don’t let the sun go down on me”

Pelicans and a great egret hanging around the island.

Watching the sun go down early in the quarantine in late March.

It was a quiet night. Most people were sitting in their cars watching the sun go down instead of getting out and walking around the small beach there. I kept saying I was going to get back over there but I just never did.

A walk around Davis Islands yacht basin

So many different things to see around the tip of Davis Islands where the small airport and yacht basin ends the island.  From tiny boats, really big boats and tug boats the variety can keep you busy watching the sights all morning.

In one corner of the island, there’s a small dog beach next to the private airport. There wasn’t many dogs on the beach early one recent Saturday morning. I think it was just too hot. Even the water was warm.

I think this is my favorite. This sailboat had a handmade boat lift for it’s own rowboat.

A hot Saturday morning in late July.
