These are baby common moorhens (or some people are calling them common gallinules). They are in the rail family. I found this family as I was leaving Gatorland on my last trip a few weeks ago.
Mom was feeding baby. I love how his little wings stick out.
Baby portrait. I hate that they lose that pretty blue on their face.
Mom still feeding them. She was busy.
“Thanks for the snack, Mom.” I watched this little family for a while. They were running along the edges of one of the big alligator exhibits in the front of the park. I guess it’s good the alligators get fed a lot there.

Wonderful shots of these babies. Those little wings are so comical-looking.
This is adorable! I have never seen a moorhen, baby or otherwise. The blue patches are an interesting feature.
I love gallinu … um moorhens (so much easier to spell), but never saw babies before — just adorable. And yes, it is good the alligators are well fed. Our guide at Shark Valley last week (in the Everglades) said that the moorhens are the very bottom of the food chain; which seems so sad, but I guess part of nature.
They have the face only a mother could love. Great captures, Dina!
I love this … I used to watch the Gallinules on my parents pond when they lived in Florida. They are adorable and your pictures captured them at their best. Thank you … what a treat.

These are beautiful, Dina! I saw my first ever Moorhen in the wild two weeks ago. I couldn’t get very close to it, but I was just happy to have seen one in person. Love your photos of the babies!
A couple of my now beautiful daughters had sticky up hair like that!
Your title cracked me up! How appropriate!
